A Walk to Remember

This morning I did something different (for me) and participated with my co-workers in the 20th annual Memory Walk in Balboa Park. Walking 3 miles, especially in light rain, beats running when you want to savor every moment.

Alzheimer's is the 7th leading cause of death in the USA and, unfortunately, expected to move up in ranking because of our aging population. Right now someone is diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease -- the most common form of dementia -- every 70 seconds. There are 5.3 million people with Alzheimer's, a disease that currently cost caregivers and employers and taxpayers $172 billion.

Consider this comparison of Alzheimer's to other diseases:

Here's a video I made of this morning for work:

Awesome video Anne! The music you chose is perfect and made me all weepy...which is what made it so perfect for this.

On the other hand, the bare butts made me laugh :-)

I love the video. My Gram suffers from this horrid disease and it breaks my heart. My advice for anyone going through it with a family member is to separate who the person is now with who they were. It is so hard to watch- and an unfair betrayal of my Gram's mind.

Wow, very emotional and inspiring video. I noticed a huge diversity in the people from Asian to African American to white. And age too. What a perfect way to get a bunch of people together to really care and support something worthy. Glad to see you are part of this. It's good to step out of the running scene some times. Thanks for posting!
