This past weekend was a bust in terms of doing healthful activities, unless you consider my contributions to a better balance in our bank account. I had a slew of freelance and new-job projects to complete and not enough time to do them all. This made the rare couple of hours spent at a book club meeting, yoga or watching the thoroughly creepy "Paranormal Activity" DVD (filmed, if I haven't mentioned already, in my suburb of San Diego) feel like an intrusion. In all other waking hours, I constantly was tied to a computer here or in a college classroom.
Needless to say, I woke this morning with that same feeling of a weekend lost to inactivity, alcohol and a void in memory. It's rare for me to go that long without getting fresh or even stale gym air on a walk, a hike, a ride or a row. It's not rare, unfortunately, for me to fuel work binges with sugar, caffeine and way too many carbs.
The frenzied freelancing continues for at least another two weeks, but next weekend will be different. How do I know? Because I get to prepare for an event that has been four months in coming: my first run since tearing my achilles tendon last fall.

I hate weekends like that. What's your event?
Jeanne,
I'm running on a treadmill for as long as my tendon can take it. I haven't run a single step since Halloween to stop a tear from slicing all the way through. No need to pay $100-$600to organizers for this "event." It'll be priceless!
It was only one weekend (making money is a good thing), you will catch up with your regular routine, cut yourself some slack.
I agree with lily on the road. Making money is essential to one's survival and comes first. I wish you success in your upcoming run.
Anne, I sympathize with your "lost weekend". I've had many of those myself, and they're always disconcerting. It makes for a rough start to the week, when we feel like we haven't refreshed our souls. You'll get there though, and the extra work and money in the bank is a good thing. Can't wait to hear about your next run though, sounds like it's needed!
You can't buy running shoes unless you work...that's what I have to tell myself sometimes!
So excited for you to be able to run again!
Sounded like you were watching "Lost" all weekend, definitely not the same thing. Good luck on your run, hope the achilles holds out!
While it may have sucked, food-wise, I am glad to hear you are so busy with freelance work. That's really good on the $ end.
Glad you are able to run again, i hope it goes well for you. work is good too. too much carbs and no fresh air - not so much.
Unfortunately those lost weekends do exist. People who don't have them scare me!!!!
Curious to know what event you plan on.
Two words Anne - WOO HOO!!! (About the running that is....)
yes for the run next week. I am looking forward to reading how it went. Do you have a plan (time distance)?
