If you were up and outdoors under clear skies before dawn this morning, then you witnessed a beautiful full moon. And if you're still up tonight celebrating the end of the decade, you'll see yet another full moon, much like the one on Dec. 2, which makes tonight's occurrence what we informally call a blue moon (though it isn't blue). It's a phenomenon that hasn't happened in about 20 years, and I think it bodes well for all of us, don't you? Cheers!

Yes, it was shining brightly while I was snow shoeing and shining well into this morning too!
Even though I have to miss my annual Resolution Run tonight, I'll be out under the moon to support my friends.
Happy New Year! May 2010 bring you much health, happiness and laughter!
Arrroooo! I hope you got your howl on while you were out there, Anne. I plan to be at 14,265 feet when the moon rises tonight and then hike down a path lit by moon. Happy New Year to you!
I'm going to do what I can to see the moon before I hit the sack tonight. Will be something worth seeing, I think. Happy New Year, Anne!!
i think its the perfect way to say goodbye to 2009. happy new year, anne. wishing you the most wonderful year ever!
I'm with you Anne...I'm gonna believe it's a sign of good things to come this year...for both of us, right? We'll definitely do that 56 ride at some point!
Happy New Year to you and yours.
Yep, the moon was shining pretty brightly here on the East Coast too, it looked really cool (although not as cool as in your photo, where did you find that?) Let me guess, you took it?!
Terri, Much as I'd like to take credit, the photo appears in the National Geographic article I link to in the post.
The moon was so amazing last night. It was cloudy here but the clouds never covered the moon - they just hovered around it.
Reading your blog makes me want to be a better blogger and actually write this stuff running around in my head.
I do believe this year will be better. I'm going to MAKE it better! And you will too, I just know it.
I was totally admiring the moon and now I know why. Thanks!
