Just got back from a 5.5-mile run around Lake Murray in East County. There was a lot more activity than usual for that hour of the day due to everyone setting up for a 4th of July festival and people already getting dibs on prime park real estate.
I really struggled on this one. Maybe because I hadn’t run since Monday. Maybe because I ate an extra extra helping of my homemade onion rings last night. Maybe because I’m on the cusp of that time of the month. Maybe because I wore a flimsy white technical shirt and not-so-supportive sports bra. Maybe because I had to stop four times to use the facilities. Maybe because I didn’t sleep well.
Then again, maybe I just had a lousy run.
I'd heard about this woman marathoner who ran down a rapist last week. I'm not sure I'd have the strength to do the same, especially on days like today.

Happy 4th & nice run Anne, ya SF was awesome place, we also went to the top of Coit Tower...great views!
i ran 5 today as well-and my run sucked as well!! But mine was because of the sun and heat-stupid me waiting to go out so late! But we both got out there! yeah for us!!!
Well ya know that at this point, I'd rather have a sucky run than what I've got...(which is nada), but I know you've already been there...So yay for your crappy run, whatever the cause.
OK...the woman marathoner? Amazing. I don't know if I could have done that either.
Happy 4th!
Lousy runs are better than no runs at all. Think of it as a "transition" run into your next great run! Happy Fourth! And yeah, you could totally take an attacker.
I saw that woman on the news yesterday and I was amazed. Very creepy that the perp killed himself in the jail cell.
Some runs are like that... The important thing is - you went out and ran!
Have fun on the 4th!
happy 4th anne, i'm no stranger to less than satisfactory runs but it just make the sweet runs all the sweeter, right?
Struggling runs lead to good things. Pushing the envelope. Lousy runs are ok cos you finish them and that's a lot more than 99% pf the folks do. Homemade ORs, I'd have an extra extra extra, and run it off the next day (10 miles on 7/4, 3 miles with trainees and 7 miles of hills with Boot Camp Sgt. Emily later).
Which means your next run will be wonderful! Right?
Happy 4th!
As a person in my club once told me back when I first started running - "That's why the call it training." Not every run is going to be great. Learn and move on.
the lousy runs are necessary so we know what a GREAT run is (at least that's what I tell myself!)
some runs are just plain lousy, and makes up for all the great ones. incredible story about the woman chasing after her attacker.
