Just Passing Through
While our out-of-town company's still asleep and the blueberry muffins are in the oven, I wanted to let you know that I did my first group run of the season yesterday. Just a little under 2.5 miles in about 25 minutes. I've lost a lot more aerobic capacity than even leg strength, but it felt great to be out there again. My doctor on Thursday said she now suspects I tore my achilles -- not a great big tear, but enough of one to hinder me for months. It is improving, so the long rest did help. I'm next heading to an ankle specialist, but first she wants to see if a month of riding in lieu of most of my runs shows improvement.
That'll make these Saturday morning outings with 75 of my closest friends even more exceptional.
Yesterday I spent six hours walking around the Zoo; today it's showing everyone around La Jolla. I love it when I have a great excuse to go out and play.

I am glad to hear that things seem to be on the mend. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
OMG- ouch if it was your achilles! Good thing you did take time off!!!
I am glad you finally got to run-it is fun running with a group! I wish I did it more often!!!
Glad to hear the time off did you good. It will be nice to see you back out there again. ;)
sending positive vibes to your achilles...patience with those kinds of injuries is half the battle...have you considered swimming?
You are lucky if it is just a slight tear. A full rupture would require surgery and a longer recovery time. I'm guessing with this 6-8 weeks? Be careful!
That's a serious injury - no wonder it didn't heal faster. (A rupture would be hedious : (
More rest is OK - just try to keep yourself busy with some gentle cross training activities.
I'll be back there taking it easy with you!
75 of our closest friends...that made me laugh :-)
Good to hear you are finally able to run, esp w/ 75 of your closest friends! I always fear getting injured like that. I'll be hoping for a speedy recovery.
Only 75 people to run with?! That's awesome!
