My gmap of the route is shorter by .7 miles because I had to use the manual function; it’s exactly 10 miles from garage to garage in real life. As you can see from the elevation, the ride in is a breeze compared to the ride home, where I climb, and then climb more and more. By the eighth mile, I’m firmly locked in a granny gear. As I crest the last long hill, my legs always shake as I catch my breath, wipe my brow and then try to make a sharp right around a street pole without falling into speeding traffic. Once I didn’t make it but had the wherewithal to fall on the sidewalk instead of the street.
That is, until today.
I shaved five minutes off both ways and kept it in a much higher gear. I even negotiated that tricky turn. I am rather amazed at how quickly I've improved, just like everyone said I would. I was so happy that I celebrated with

Wow! That's great! You must have a fairly safe route to ride - I can't find a good route to the new location, and transit turns a half hour trip to 1.5 to 2 hours. I'll be driving. I'm glad you figured out a good way to commute by bike!
Wow Anne. I'm familiar with the area. That's quite a ride! Is there a bike path that runs parallel to the 56?
the is so cool. Wish we had a way to bike in to work, our road is just too busy.
Good luck on you hangover run, I mean run this morning...LOL
Anne, you are amazing and brilliant!
Every now and then I think "I should bike to work" but I haven't gotten organized enough to do it yet. I'd have a similar downhill-there/uphill-home route, but without showers at work.
For now I'm going to stick to reading on transit, but keep posting about the bike commute - your example might grow on me.
Wow - that's a lot of miles. How is your bottom (butt) feeling? ; )
WTG Anne!
That is pretty neat. Is this where the saying "as easy as riding a bike" comes from? I am glad that you fell in the right direction.
You have been busy (as usual)! That is some increase in distance on Penelope - she sounds like a keeper. I'm so happy, happy, happy to find you biking. I'm sort of partial to it. :-)
Louise says...Never fall into traffic! Wooohooo
Anne I'm so excited that you already improved so much on your bike riding commute. You are so awesome for doing this!
I think you will find, with time, that you will want to continue biking and adding some running and before you know it you can do a duathlon or triathlon!
it's amazing how quickly you can adapt. good job!
It would be pretty cool to be able to bike to work. Too bad there are no showers at work.. Hope you keep it up!
that's pretty awesome!
wow -- what progress in only a week!! that is fantastic, and wait until you see the impact it has on your running!
