Music to My Ears
I'm listening less and less to music these days and more to the spoken contributions of journalists, authors and plain ol' folk on podcasts and the public airwaves. I'm lucky. I have both an iPod with plenty of playlists and my old Rio Cali that has an excellent antennae to pick up radio stations while I run.
This morning I was so engrossed in this personal essay from the "This I Believe" series on NPR, that I failed to notice the flashing red lights on the fire engines heading out of a station in front of me. It made me think of home, and it made me think of hard times. It also made the five miles of hills fly by.

P.S. Even though I'm not a big fan of hockey, I gotta give it up for my alma mater, Boston University, for winning last night's come-from-behind, Disney-movie-like national championship victory over Miami (Ohio).

Are you comparing BU's win last night to the Mighty Ducks?! LOL.
Thanks for the This I Believe plug. I listened for the first time this morning. However, it sounds like I just listened to the very last episode. If so, I am a bit late to the party.
I'll have to tune in and see what it's all about.
I saw that big BU victory. Congrats!
I started to get into pod casts, but then stopped...I have to get back into them again, especially the NPR ones.
My favorite NPR podcast is "Car Talk". Those guys crack me up! I'll have to try them out on my next run.
Great.. but keep watching out for firetrucks!
You know - I listen to podcasta almost exclusively on my runs. I will listen to music on a tempo run, but otherwise it's the spoken word! Gives m time to catch up with the news and other things going on!
What!! You aren't a hockey fan??? Please don't tell me that this long into our friendship! BU rocks.... it was an awesome game!
Interesting and insightful podcast. Thanks for sharing.
I hear ya! How much music can one take? I've switched to watching TV while doing the mill....:-(
GO BU! (I hate and detest hockey but whatever).
I had successfully weaned myself off running with headphones...until 10 miles faced me yesterday morning. I tuned back into Phedippidations and the miles did indeed fly by.
Driveway Moments are (is?) pretty good too.
I was listening to the NPR show "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me" one time and I had to stop running because I was laughing so hard (running and laughing...not always easy)...
Maybe I should choose a less funny NPR program :-)
