Dear Elise,
Sorry I didn't always come home when I said I would. I tried, though. I really did.
I guess I also need to apologize for leaving you with "no food in this house." How was I to know those were all empty boxes on top of the fridge and empty bags in the bins? Besides, I figured a college senior might understand. (That phone call to me at work just to let me know you were forced to eat a tortilla for breakfast? A little much, don't you think?)
You've really matured in the three years since you left for college; I saw it when we went shopping in La Jolla. You didn't want me to buy you some "career clothes" and kept saying you were worried about the cost. Or was it just my taste?
We never made it to the beach, did we? We didn't even make you Dad's fried rice! How'd that happen?
Well, I might have come up a little short during your way-too-brief visit, but just remember this: I did give you a sister and you didn't even have to ask for one.
Love, Mom

Beautiful daughters Anne. I have to laugh at kids. I've been up the ladder painting and just as I reach the top and get the paint brush going...it never fails, one of them hollers up from below - "I'm hungry...there's nothing to eat...I need want to do something"!
I'd sure like them though.
aawwww!!! I can't even imagine this yet. Time passes so fast doesn't it.
beautiful ladies :)
Oh, you should have mentioned how you gave her stellar good looks as well!
I appreciated your comment about my baby leaving today. It was much harder than I expected, but I know you are right and we'll find the balance again.
beautiful girls, just like their momma!
Unbelievably adorable!!
I did give you a sister and you didn't even have to ask for one made me smile.
Great looking girls Anne - love the letter!
ooooh mom. i forgive you for the no food...and it was chicken nuggets at 9:30!
Oh, she is so lucky she doesn't live on a farm. When I hear "there's nothing to eat", the response is always "go pick something," "go kill something" or "get something out of the freezer." That usually shuts 'em up. And the last time I looked, there was still a pile of home-made tamales vacuum-sealed in the deep-freeze, six to a package.
Cute! I think I would like her.
yes, yes. i am awesome.
"I did give you a sister and you didn't even have to ask for one."
Loved that!
Great post, but just when do they begin to fend for themselves? If it happens anytime soon with my boys I'll let you know.
Very beautiful girls! You must be very proud! When the kids leave home and you start having your own life again, I think they get surprised that you are someone other than their mom, that maybe there are others out there who need or want your attention too, or that you have other interests besides them.
Ahh, the foibles of kids. How fun!
Nice! I like it. Awesome family!
