Temporary Lefty

That surgeon of mine is a smart one. Tricky too. First, after hearing how much I needed to use my right hand in the coming weeks, he offered a different procedure that wasn't as invasive and perhaps just as effective. Well, almost. There's a 40 percent chance I'll be back at some point. I'll take the odds if it means one less scar.

This is the same guy who treated my fractured hip last summer and he remembered me.

"You still running?"

"Yes, but not as much as before. I swear. I'm only doing five miles...or maybe six some weekends."

"That's great that you're following my advice. So, you didn't run the marathon Sunday?"

"No. I've been good. Like you said, no more than five miles a day."

"Great. Great. I did the La Jolla Half Marathon this year."

"Me too!"

Busted. And, for the time being, comfortably numb.
