What Is Wrong With These People?

I've had this title to a Po Bronson book on my mind all day, thanks to a recommendation by a dear friend. And just as I was convinced there are no limits to the depths of my family's dysfunction, I find out that the Los Angeles justice system is way more screwed up than anyone I know.

You've got a man who mows down 10 innocent people fleeing an accident, injures 70 others, shows no remorse and never even apologizes for the carnage he created -- he even blames the victims at the scene! He's given the harshest verdict by a jury, called callous by the sentencing judge and then gets off scot-free because it would cost taxpayers too much to care for him in prison.

The only consolation for those poor families is knowing that once George Weller dies, he won't be joining their lost loved ones in the afterlife.

Probation for elderly driver in deadly farmers market crash

Let me get this straight. This moron kills and maims at will in order to avoid apprehension for an earlier crime and the judge is worried that prison may be a death sentence. Just what does life in prison mean?

WTF?! That's awful!!

How about the child molester in Nebraska (I think)who was spared a prison sentence because the judge said he was too small to be safe in prison.

i can't tell you how many elderly people i work with that are in complete denial of their need to stop driving.....they think as long as their not on the freeway it's not really unsafe! so sad and totally avoidable.

It's not just in California. Pennsylvania is the land of Drunk Drivers. They don't take your license away when you get caught and it can be up to 2 years before you go to court so guess who is out on the streets?! A few days ago, a multiple repeat DUI offender hit TWO Amish buggies--a mile and a half apart--injuring seven people, killing two horses and causing two additional wrecks. He never even stopped, but he did turn around because he thought he hit something. Duh!

It's pretty sick. Someone should have taken away his license long ago.
