I nodded off while undergoing today's latest round of diagnostics at the hospital. I think that proves I've grown way too comfortable with this procedure and staff.
Another MRI scheduled for Sept. 15 will either confirm that my stress fracture of the femoral neck is healed, or reveal that the bone's splintered again. Apparently my description of the lingering pain sans crutches indicates either. I, of course, hope it's just muscle atrophy and not a further fracture.
One thing is certain, to the orthopedist anyway. I'm done running marathons. His parting words: "Maybe you should consider riding a bike instead."
Then I'd have to change this blog to Ride DMZ. And that just doesn't sound good to me.

Doctor's don't always know - and yeah bike dmz doesn't have the same ring!
What?! Come on. Don't assume that and just run for fun.
Hoping that the outcome is better than you or the doctors expect! Very best with everything. I'm thinking of you.
aw i'd love ya either way :)
That is the worst thing that a doctor could ever say to a runner. I am so sorry to hear that. You must be crushed. I know I would be. But the human body is an amazing thing and I am sure that you will heal and be stronger than ever. If you set your mind to it, I am sure that you will be able to run another marathon if you so desire.
There's a reason they call medicine a "practice" - it's because they don't always know for sure, even though some of them think they do.
Maybe you can become a tri-geek :-)
I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you! Maybe still running, just not marathon distance...or maybe a move to the trails...
ooohhhh yayyyyy no more driving you to henry's!!!! just kidding, i love you and i am happy for your hip because you are hip. don't try to make sense of it.
My husband has broken his hip 3 times after being hit by 2 cars and one bus on his bike. The doctor told him no more, no more. But he's still riding like a pro nearly 20 years later. He's also still getting hit by things - further proving it's damaged his brain - not his hip.
All the best to you.
I once fell asleep DURING an MRI...on the metal table, in the sub-0 temps, with the jack-hammer noise going off in my ears. (But in my own bed at night in the dark? forget it.)
That doctor is a ... well, let's not assume he can predict the future. OK? I got told the same thing and here I am, running.
Who'da thunk?
I had a podiatrist tell me I may never run again after my surgery to remove a bunion. I should have chosen another podiatrist. This was before I ever started running 1/2 marathons and marathons. Doctors drive me nuts.
I'm hoping the diagnosis is good.
Yes, I agree with you - Ride DMZ doesn't have the same melodic ring to it! I hope you get better news and that you eventually get back out with the rest of us! Keep your spirits bright okay.
Hmmm doctor's schmoctor's...give it some time, lots of time. Besides...I like the idea of half's a whole lot more than a full marathon. Then again, 10k's sound even better!!
Bikes are woefully boring! I vote for getting a horse!!!!
Only time will tell. Remember the human body and the human spirit are amazing things. I for one hope Run DMZ will run again and certainly look forward to reading all about it.
Ride now and run tomorrow! This could be a chance to start a triathlon.
Hope your test comes out ok....
And try to find a doc that runs...!
You're in my thoughts!
you're gonna kill me for saying this but, there's more to running than marathons.
ok, i'm ready for my flogging now.
i don't say it to diminish how badly you must feel. i only say it to put things in perspective.
head up and heal up :)
